Smile Getting Started

Hello everyone

Just got my 2nd character to 20
Playing E/Mo
He has (i've been told) The best gear from the Kaineng Centre and the gear has runes etc added to them

Basically i want to pvp. How do i get started or shall i make a brand new pvp only character for it?

Any help would be appreciated

Feel free to contact me in game on Rival Night

Make PvP characters until you have some experience and know what mods to buy for your PvE chars (and can afford them). Start in Random Arenas, Alliance Battles, Fort Aspenwood, and the Jade Quarry playing builds from PvX Wiki. HA and GvG are the most serious and most fun PvP in GW, but the barriers to entry and learning curve is pretty high for both of them.

When you make a PvP character you will start off in isle of the nameless. Talk to the Priest guy with a quest indicator and he will take you through one or two easy PvP-related quests and then he will take you to random arena's.

I would recommend starting out on a caster such as a necromancer or an elementalist, as they are generally pretty straightforward. Go on PvX wiki and play random arena's until you can unlock some popular builds on there. That being said don't just copy/paste builds and then mindlessly press buttons and expect to learn things about the game. Look at the build and see what it is designed to do (and why the skill choice works so well) and learn how and where to learn each skill optimally.

As you progress, you will learn about what things give your build problems and how to circumvent them (i.e. hammer warriors doing stupid amounts of damage to you means you should switch to your shield set before this happens, rangers interrupting you mean you should switch to a fast casting weapon set, assassin running towards you means you should run in the opposite direction, etc.)

Don't be overwhelmed or discouraged when your attempts to improve are met with stiff opposition by your teammates in RA or by the fact that you will likely lose a lot when you first start. This game really isn't that difficult once you get the hang of it =P

in HeroAscent(HA) fire ele requires no skills to play, you should start there to get a feel for the maps. Tts pretty hard to get into gvg if u are new to guild wars so dont bother starting there for a few months. and definitely make a pvp character, check pvxwiki.com for builds.

In HA you should have
all survivor runes
+1fire rune
1superior vigor
rest are vitae runes
2weapon sets to start off i guess.
20%fast cast fast recharge of fire magic Wand and focus

1furious spear with "live the memories live inscription" of defense 1shield +30hp +10fire armor

Welcome to PvP

Also, don't be discouraged by what others say to you. Expect various people to call you out on your faults but hey, you learn from your mistakes and eventually, you will improve and gain a lot more experience. Once you get the hang of how pvp works, that's when it gets fun.

Wouldn't that mean you are running towards the assassin?

the best advice i can give you is don't get started with pvp. not worth it anymore, really.
Conquest or HoN are far better choices for pvp now than GW is.
